Look2Skype is an add-in for Microsoft Outlook 2000, Outlook 2002/XP, and Outlook 2003 that allows you to control Skype directly from within Outlook. You can make Skype IP telephony calls, SkypeOut Skype calls to non-Skype users, and start Skype Instant Messenger chats directly from your contacts in Microsoft Outlook.

Operation

The product adds a toolbar below the main Outlook toolbars. So if you have a database of contacts in your Personal Contacts folder in Outlook, you can easily select/highlight a contact and place a call:

Likewise Look2Skype adds a toolbar to any standard (or custom) Outlook Contact form.

So if you open a particular contact, you will see some additional Skype buttons at the top of the contact form.

A custom/user-defined field is automatically added to the Contacts folder called Skype Name, that allows you to store the contact’s Skype User ID/Name. Dialing that contact on Skype is a simple as clicking the Skype icon on the toolbar:

Likewise, to start an Internet Instant Messenger “chat” session with that user is a case of clicking the Chat icon:

To call the contact on their office, home or mobile numbers, you simply select the relevant number from the SkypOute Contact dropdown menu:

Note that in order to do this you have to purchase SkypeOut credit with your credit card. The minimum investment is € 10, which gives you about 10 hours of calling time at the Global Skype rate. So this is very inexpensive compared to the cost of international phone calls using your regular telephony long distance service provider.

Public Folder Contacts

The Look2Skype toolbar is also added automatically to any custom contact form that is published on a Microsoft Exchange Server Public Folder.

So for example we have added the Look2Skype custom field (Skype Name) to our standard MX-Contact Contacts form:
